You will really enjoy the experience at the included excursion at Houmas House. The Viking Mississippi docks at Houmas House and there is a short walk across the levee to the entry to the Gardens. They are beautiful and include historic gardens, Oriental Gardens, ponds, dancing fountains, statues and sculptures. Don't miss the Turtle Bar located in the Garconniere, built in 1828. The guided.tour of the Mansion is entertaining, and tells the stories of the owners and their lifestyles. The current owner lives in the Mansion and some of his personal items are on display, but most everything in the Mansion is correct for the historic period. There are many pieces of the original Houmas Collection. The home was restored in 2003, but reflects the Greek Revival Style from when it was built between 1810 and expanded and completed in 1828. The colors, interior and exterior, are accurate. Also, don't miss the Great River Road Museum (not included excursion) which tells the stories of Life on the Mississippi between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. The exhibits, photos and paintings tell the stories of the nearly 500 plantations that once graced the River. The Africans in Louisiana Exhibit tells the full story of the Enslaved from its Origins. til Freedom. www.HoumasHouse.com
