Baldur Grand European July 17- July 31

We are on the Baldur arriving August 12 for two days in Budapest and then board the ship on the 14th and head to Amsterdam. We are four rooms with a balcony. As long as our luggage makes it we are looking forward to a great cruise to knock off our retirement bucket list. Starting to pack in the next day or two.

Hi, we arrived 2 days early, too. We stayed in the Budapest Hilton right at the top of the city. Use your Viking concierge- he set us up! We did the hop on, hop off bus, visited the Hospital museum, and ate at the Riso Resturante and terrace - Twice - great food! There is a grocery store around the corner from the Hilton where we bought a few supplies and tried Hungarian soft drinks. The synagogue does a free tour that we did not have enough time to do. Make sure you see the shoes along the River. We did 20,000 steps one day - very safe and walkable city! Our time in Budapest was the most memorable part of our trip! Beautiful city!

The Market is great with an Aldi in the basement. The t-shirts, scarfs, postcards, and hats will seem very well priced - Hungary is having inflation issues and the dollar trades very favorably! The market closes early Sat and is closed Sunday. Don’t worry if you miss it, you will have time the day you board to walk over to the market - buy your paprika there!

Toilets cost .50 € all over Europe - that’s ok - they are very clean because of this . One lady took an American dollar - we were desperate!

We used credit cards and euros in Hungary. We did not buy their currency and asked for our change in euros only.

I recommend a small room fan. Ours ran off a USB port and it was great to keep the room a little cooler and the air circulated.

Also, 2 electrical adapters. The boat takes a type different from what we already had for European hotels - so check that out too!
